Checklist for choosing your ergonomic office chair

Finding the right ergonomic office chair is not straightforward when there are so many different options, but it can make a huge difference to work productivity with a healthier work environment. SIHOO shop has currently eight office chairs available on the market which our team of experts has reviewed independently.

Below is our checklist of the features that we consider very important when buying an ergonomic office chair.

Height adjustment

Look for at least 8cm of height adjustment. All SIHOO chairs provide for 10cm of height adjustment which is standard in the industry. That includes the most basic ergonomic office chair of the range, the SIHOO M101C. For more information on height adjustment, please check out our further advice.

Stable base

A stable base is achieved by a design with star-shaped or five point base. This is the optimum way to distribute the weight of the chair while still maintaining manoeuvrability. All SIHOO chairs have been designed with this in mind.

Please also make sure you verify the weight capacity of your chair and that it has a good swivel and locking mechanism! The SIHOO M57 is a great example of a chair with a well designed aluminium alloy stable base. For more information on star shaped or five point base, please check out our further advice.

Lumbar support

Lumbar support which is dynamic and adjustable is important to ensure that your back supported as you sit throughout the day. It is critical to keep your back in the correct posture. The SIHOO Doro C300 has adaptive lumbar support which dynamically responds to provide continuous support. For more information on lumbar support, please check out our further advice.

Tilt and recline

A good ergonomic chair needs to be able to adapt to different use positions, whether that is sitting straight at the desk or relaxing at a fully reclined position. The SIHOO V1 is a brilliant example of a full reclining ergonomic office chair which is just as good for working as it is for a nap especially with its built in footrest. For more information on the difference between tilt and recline, please check out our further advice.

Armrests

The next part of an ergonomic office chair which often gets overlooked are the armrests, These should be adjustable so they support you while sitting. This can alleviate pain in the shoulders. You should be looking for an office chair with armrests which adjust in at least three dimensions. The ultimate office chair with 6 dimensions armrests is the SIHOO Doro C300 Pro. For more information on the difference between 2D, 3D, 4D and 6D armrests, please check our further advice.

Headrest and backrest

Do you have regular neck pain? Headrest plays a critical role in neck support and you need to make sure you choose a chair with an ergonomic headrest. The SIHOO V1 has a height adjustment of 5cm but also has a 60 arc of rotation so that your neck and head are always well supported. For more information on headrest, please check out our further advice.

Backrest and seat depth

Are you taller or shorter than the norm and struggling to find a chair that fits you? Then, you need to look at backrest and seat depth option. We would recommend the SIHOO S100 that has a fully adaptable backrest combined with a seat depth adjustment range of 5cm that caters for taller or shorter people (150cm to 190cm). Usually recommended for gamers who spend a lot of time in front of screens therefore having many ergonomic options included.

Material and Padding

The material of the chair's seat ad backrest plays a significant role in your comfort. Mesh is breathable and ideal for keeping you cool and cleaning, while padded fabric or leather offers a plush feel. The padding should be firm enough to provide support while retaining its shape over time. SIHOO offers a wide range of options that caters for all preferences including chairs that are made entirely of mesh or with padded fabric /leather, and that are a mix of both worlds. In our view, that is really a personal preference. For more information on whether you should opt for a mesh office chair, please check our further advice.

Warranty and customer support

For your peace of mind, you should also look at the warranty and customer support offered by the manufacturer. A reliable company should stand by their product with a reasonable warranty and responsive customer service. In our opinion, SIHOO shop on Amazon offers the best of both worlds with a great warranty and customer support.
